"Food, art, music and other things that take over our senses are that way. In one fell swoop, they can stop us in our tracks. That sweetness hits home; these textures burst on the tongue; this spice brings it all together. That note lifts me, that painting transports me. I am taken to another level of my human life." YES. To dive deeply into the sensuality of life, to make the time and space for these experiences. We lose track of that in our rush and crush world. Thank you for helping me to slow down and savor this morning. <3

This made me a little sad because in recent years I have practically given up on cooking. Our girls are so picky that slowly our menu has reduced to about five different (very basic) meals that we just keep on rotation. Sometimes I find it in me to spruce it up for my husband and I but mostly I don’t. I have lost the joy to cook because no one enjoyed eating. And it’s not that my food was bad - the girls just don’t eat anything else nowhere else either. I can’t tell you how sad this makes me because I used to love preparing our meals- until our youngest was about two she was eating everything, it was beautiful. And then she stopped.

This post reminded me how much I enjoy food and made me realize our family is missing this enjoyment around eating together…

Thank you, Rachel, for stirring something in me… maybe it’s time I make an effort again.

Maybe I should start with the chocolate pudding 😜

It can be difficult if others don’t enjoy what we make, or don’t appreciate it. I hope you can find a way to enjoy cooking again? Maybe for friends? Or even just for yourself?

How wonderful to be able to enchant people so with your cooking ✨ I recently resolved to invite more people to eat with us, so I shall try out your delicious chocolate pudding. Thank you for sharing. x

Food can be that way. It will just hit you right sometimes.😊 I like the word “enchant”; there’s often a little magic involved.💫✨ I’ve had people say over and over, “When I make it, it doesn’t taste like yours!”

I was just discussing chocolate pudding this past week with my son and daughter-in-law, and how when I made pudding for my son when he was little, I wouldn't cover it so the top would get a delightfully chewy, fudgy consistency to it. We both loved it and would bend over the bowl, spoons in hand and carefully scrape the top off and savor it. This recipe sound delectably rich. I make a much simpler option with milk, cocoa powder, cornstarch, sugar and vanilla, with a chopped chocolate bar and a few tablespoons of butter stirred in at the end. It never fails to make me sigh deeply in delight.

This does not have the light airy consistency of pudding but rather a rich, thick, fudgy texture. Even though the photo makes it look fairly non-descript, it was good enough to stop people from talking!

I'm going to try the pudding recipe this weekend. We are empty nesters, though, so I'll have to sacrifice myself and eat the extra portions over a few days!
